Happy St. Patrick’s Day

If there is a blemish on America, like musical surgeons, The USA Singers will spot it, dissect it and turn into musical gold, or orange or in today’s case green. This phenomenally talented group of musicians and songwriters have placed a pot of gold at the end of the musical rainbow, and fittingly released it today in order to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a blaze of resistance.

‘Kavanaugh’ comes to listeners in the form of an Irish jig. It is a public rebuke of the hopelessly flawed but hideously protected Supreme Court of the United States’ nominee/appointee Brett Kavanaugh. As the Senate Judiciary Committee listened to testimony from Christine Blasey-Ford last fall, many in the public space were aghast at the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh/would be Supreme Court Judge. In the eyes of The USA Singers lyricists Frankie D. Roosevelvet and Rutherford Purple Hayes the seriousness of the accusations warranted further exploration. The idea that someone with such a dubious reputation was rammed through the nomination process like a drunken freshman tapping a keg at a college frat house, did not sit well with the song’s creators.

Throughout ‘Kavanaugh’, Roosevelvet and Hayes paint a portrait that amounts to a blistering condemnation of Brett Kavanugh’s character. They point out the fact he is morally flawed in many ways. It should be noted that even the most challenged individuals can be granted forgiveness, or at least some compassion if they come across as credible or moderately remorseful in some way, but it is The USA Singers contention that Kavanaugh failed in this capacity in many ways. He in no way came across as a sympathetic character. Quite the contrary. Belligerent, entitled, pathetic and remorseless come to mind. Here is a taste of the hard-hitting lyrics:

LET’S HAVE A SHOT OF WHISKEY AS WE SING ABOUT OLE BRETT

FORCES HIMSELF ON WOMEN THEN HE SAYS THAT HE FORGETS

AND DOESN’T SHOW THE SLIGHTEST FUCKIN MORSEL OF REGRET

LET’S POUR ANOTHER SHOT SO WE DON’T TALK ABOUT HIS DEBT

DOES ANYONE BELIEVE THIS FUCKIN ASSHOLE’S ON THE COURT?

AND ALL THE WHILE HE’S SAYING TO US “COME ON AND BE A SPORT

I WENT TO YALE I’M A WHITE MALE YOUR SHIP HAS COME TO PORT

TAKE OFF YOUR SHIRT HIKE UP YOUR SKIRT AND SHOW ME YOUR SUPPORT”

The U.S.A. Singers

This is just one verse.

Try this on for a chorus.

HURRAH HURRAH FOR KAVANAUGH YOU FILTHY FUCKIN PRICK

THE WAY YOU’RE TREATING WOMEN REALLY MAKES ME FUCKIN SICK

I HOPE RUTH BADER GINSBERG GOES AND HITS YOU WITH A STICK

GETS YOU WITH AN UPPERCUT AND THEN KICKS YOU IN THE DICK

The U.S.A. Singers

Yes, these guys are angry, but with good reason. The fact that this man currently shares space with the impeccable Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an outrage.

As the song goes on it illustrates how this appointment is nothing more than, yet another example of GOP cronyism, and one of about 666 examples of how the Republican party is operating as a criminal element within a broken system.

The positive message contained within this song is in its close. Not only is it a compassionate plea on behalf of the true victims; it is a celebration of their strength. Christine Blasey – Ford, Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick put their necks on the line in speaking out. We live in a world where the #MeToo hashtag is considered threatening to some who still cloak themselves in a robe of toxic masculinity. Incrementally, women are speaking out. They are being heard and they are the true heroes of this story.

SO THANK THE LORD FOR BLASEY-FORD, DEBORAH RAMIREZ TOO

AND JULIE SWETNICK YOU WILL BET WE RAISE A GLASS TO YOU

CAUSE YOU’RE THE HEROES OF THIS SONG AND WE ALL KNOWS ITS TRUE

THIS SONG’S FOR ALL THE WOMEN AND SO KAVANAUGH FUCK YOU

The U.S.A. Singers

If you want testament to the fact we are moving in the right direction look at the results of the midterm elections where a record number of women were elected. Then look at how strong their voices have become in such a short time.

No! The women are not going anywhere. They will be heard. If this song does nothing else, it puts a stamp on that in a fun way.

So, raise a glass to The USA Singers and celebrate the fact that there is strength in diversity, because truth be told, it is the United States of America, not the Divided States of America.

United we will stand…
