When it comes to inspiring songs from movie soundtracks the
early Rocky movies nailed it. Things went well until Sylvester Stallone branched
out into the Rambo series and started letting his brother Frank write the
songs. At this point things went downhill fast.
Today’s feature song is ‘Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor. The
song was written by the band’s guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim
Peterik. It was recorded at the request of Stallone only after Queen turned
down his request to use ‘Another One Bites the Dust’. It is interesting to note
that the version that appears in Rocky III is actually a demo and not the
actual single released to worldwide acclaim in 1982. On July 31st
‘Eye of the Tiger’ hit #1 where it remained for six consecutive weeks and
remained in the Top 10 for 15 weeks. It was the #2 song of 1982…
