Ted Tocks Covers

Here is a classic rock song that was so popular they gave it two names. Seriously, ‘Get it On’ was released by Marc Bolan and T-Rex in 1971 and it thrived on the U.K charts. In the United States it also did well but in order to avoid confusion with a song of the same title by a group called Chase, they modified the title to ‘Bang a Gong (Get it On)’. The song was a direct tribute to the great Chuck Berry according to Bolan. He didn’t even try to hide the influence. The riff was taken from Berry’s ‘Little Queenie’. Even more specifically as the song fades out you can here the glam rock favourite sing “and meanwhile I’m still thinking” of Little Queenie.

A couple of interesting anecdotes related to this song include Elton John miming piano on a ‘Top of the Pops’ performance.

Perhaps more fascinating…
