Baby What You Want Me To Do – A tribute to #JimmyReed #MusicisLife #TedTocksCovers #ElvisPresley #EttaJames #OtisRush #GratefulDead #Whitehorse

This is a blues classic by Jimmy Reed that has been covered by countless acts over almost 60 years. Interestingly, the words ‘Baby What You Want Me To Do’ never appeared in the original version of the song. They were added in a subsequent recording in place of ‘Baby why you wanna let go,’ to match the title.

Today I am going with the Elvis cover version from his 1968 comeback special (50 years ago).

Today would have been his 83rd birthday (this was originally posted on January 8, 2018) so I thought this was a nice tribute. Elvis has left ‘the building’ but his legend lives on through hundreds of timeless cover versions of great songs.

Here is Etta James live from San Francisco. Just amazing.

We continue with the blues parade and Otis Rush from his 1978 release ‘Troubles, Troubles’.

Enjoy this live version by the Grateful Dead with a fine jam and Brent Mydland at his soulful best.

Let’s go north of the border and listen to Hamilton, Ontario’s Whitehorse. Luke Doucet kills the guitar and Melissa McClelland is so strong with her complimentary guitar and soulful vocals.

It was on this day in 1976 that Jimmy Reed died after suffering an epileptic seizure.

To this day, whenever you hear blues guitarists talk about their craft, inevitably Jimmy Reed’s name will come up.

A blues legend.
